CARING FOR YOUR BAG
Waxed canvas is a rugged cotton fabric which has been treated with a waterproof and stain-resistant beeswax coating. Waxed canvas items should never be washed with detergent but cleaned with a dry brush or spot cleaned with a damp cloth.
Waxed canvas bags will feel softer and 'oilier' in warmer conditions, and stiffer in colder conditions. Waxed canvas may darken the leather parts of the bag over time as the leather absorbs the wax coating. Waxed canvas bags may be re-coated by a professional who offers this service.
The Leather used is thick, soft, supple and with a matte finish. It has not been surface-corrected as many inferior factory leathers are, and will often display natural marks such as scars, insect bites, branding marks, fat lines and other characteristics of the animal's life. These marks only confirm the authenticity of the hide and pay homage to the animals life.
Leather is mildly water resistant but should be kept dry whenever possible. You can maintain the beauty of your leather bag by applying a commercial product designed for upholstery leather, or by gently rubbing in beeswax with a soft cloth every few months.
Leather bags will mark, soften and darken or lighten in response to sun exposure and the natural oils from our skin as it is handled. These add to the natural patina of the leather over time, giving your bag a rich and complex individual character.
All bags are individually crafted by hand, one at a time. Forest Bags stands by their workmanship and your bag should last many years under normal use.
Should your bag be defective or require a repair, Forest Bags will be happy to assist. Please contact us to discuss.
